Cold fusion as a suppressed technology

The idea that cold fusion simply doesn’t work has been touted by traditional scientists the world over ever since Fleischmann and Pons came out to the public in 1989. However, this might not be entirely what it seems, as there are some who believe that cold fusion is a technology suppressed, that physicists do not want to admit it is possible because that would mean that the laws of nuclear physics would be broken. It is also a difficult fact to swallow for many in the field, since hot fusion has been receiving hundreds of millions of dollars of funding over the last forty years in attempts to create a reactor that will provide energy. Then all of a sudden the idea comes along that the very same energy can be created in one’s own kitchen. Well, it is easy to see why many scientists would not want to believe in its legitimacy.

Cold fusion as a suppressed technology is perhaps one of the most logical and realistic conspiracy theories out there about the discovery. It also pertains to certain other discoveries and inventions for energy sources and the general term for it is “free energy suppression”. It is easy to believe that certain special interest groups, especially those with an investment in coal, oil, gas or nuclear energy, would not want something like cold fusion joining the market and taking from their profits. Therefore, it is in the best interests of these groups to suppress any breakthroughs in cold fusion as it would have a detrimental effect on their industries. But it is not only those with connections to the current big energy industries who are thought to be involved in this, as free energy suppression is also connected to governments, since a change in the way things are run could harm the system of the world’s economy. And so, governments and politicians would most certainly have a hand in preventing this from happening.

Furthermore, if cold fusion can be as cheaply created as it is thought then this means that people would no longer need to pay so much money on their electricity and gas bills. Governments are run on taxes, so they are going to want to maintain this and therefore will need to sustain the price of fuel on which they receive tax. Today, people are reliant on petrol to fuel their cars, electricity to run their households, gas to heat their homes, and some conspiracy theorists claim that this is a means by which a government can control its population. When the people in a given country need all of these things to go on living their daily lives, it is certainly advantageous to a government as they have control over what does and doesn’t get distributed. It is also the case that gas and oil companies will lobby and bribe members of parliament in order for them to maintain their monopoly on energy supplies. In turn, the government can make sure that any cheap or freely available energy sources do not make it onto the markets. Indeed, such sources would be prevented from even getting past the experimental and developmental stages that precede distribution.

So, how exactly do these groups manage to suppress scientific discoveries like cold fusion? Well there are many claims out there about the underhanded tactics used to prevent inventions from being announced to the public. One such tactic would be to purchase the patent for the device from the inventor himself, or from his family. The inventor can then be sued should he try to develop his device or distribute it on the market. More extreme rumours involve the actual murder of inventors and scientists involved in discoveries. Of course, none of this has been proven to be true. Still, it is both interesting and frightening to think that this kind of activity might actually be taking place if the conspiracy theorists are right.

Cold fusion cannot be considered an entirely “free” form of energy, as it still requires a certain amount of money to be generated. However, it would be so plentiful and easy to produce that it would surely not cost half as much as the fuel we currently use. With this in mind, we can see how it would be detrimental to a capitalist world for cold fusion to become readily available to customers. Oil and gas companies can basically name their price since they are in possession of a highly sought after commodity. They hold the key to what we need and in turn they make massive profits by selling us a product that is quite expensive. As already mentioned, a world economy with cold fusion will be a world economy turned on its head. Nobody can predict exactly how a new cheap energy source will affect big businesses, but one thing is for certain, profits from oil, electricity and gas will plummet.

Some excellent information on this conspiracy theory is provided in an episode from the American television series Phenomenon: The Lost Archives from the year 2000. The episode was titled “Cold Fusion: A Story of Suppressed Technology” and it can be viewed in full via the following website:

Here you can watch a video that tells the story of cold fusion in relation to corruption in the field of science. In it you can see how Fleischmann and Pons seemingly broke the laws of physics, with commentary from the scientists themselves, as well as various other individuals who witnessed the original discovery. A focus is put on the actions of the government and official scientists who opposed the idea in the suppression of cold fusion. The story is aptly titled “Heavy Watergate: The War Against Cold Fusion”.

This kind of suppression has been happening for a very long time, and it is not confined to the world of energy. New discoveries about food and medicine are often suppressed in a similar fashion by big companies and government agencies who will suffer from their success. The damage is most often financial, and wealth and power are the main driving forces that cause the groups involved to carry out their actions. In this way, scientists, academics and researchers who are trying to discover better ways for us to live are being punished. Ridicule, shame and public embarrassment is often inflicted upon these people simply because they endeavoured to do something that was good.

In a paper titled “Energy Invention Suppression Cases” compiled by Gary Vesperman, who is a New Energy Congress member, a number of statistics in relation to the suppression of energy are presented. The following are some of Vesperman’s statistics, and they allow us to see just how often this kind of suppression occurs. So far there have been ninety-five cases of energy suppression incidents recorded. There have been twenty dead, missing or injured energy inventors, activists and associates; thirty-two of the same have been threatened with death. Five energy researchers and associates have been imprisoned or falsely charged.

There have been fifty-nine incidents of energy suppression by the following official bodies; United States Government, Patent Office, Central Intelligence Agency, Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Marshals, Army, Air Force, Navy, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, Defense Intelligence Agency, S.W.A.T. Teams, National Security Agency, U.S. Postal Service, Department of Energy, Department of State, Securities and Exchange Commission, Food and Drug Administration, Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, Internal Revenue Service, Rural Electrification

Administration, White House, Consumer Product Safety Commission, Small Business Administration, and Canada’s Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Five thousand inventions have been classified secret by the U.S Patent Office, and nine incidents have involved oil companies. A further list of other bodies that have been connected to energy suppression is also given, these are; Standard Oil, Zapata Petroleum, Atlantic Richfield, Exxon-Mobile, Shell Oil Company, General Electric Company, Yakuza, California Air Resources Board, Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, Wells Fargo Bank, Ford Motor Company, General Motors Corporation, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Queen of England, Kollmorgan, World Bank, Rockefellers, Carlyle Group, and Bush Family. (Vesperman, 2007)

These kinds of statistics are quite shocking, not only in regards to the extent of the involvement of government and big businesses in energy suppression, but also in relation to the number of inventors who have been demonised for their work, in terms of threats, injuries, false accusations, missing persons and deaths. Cold fusion is just one of many conspiracies discussed in this document, and a wide range of suppressed inventions and discoveries are described in detail. In the cold fusion section a contrast is drawn between Japan and the US, where only one cold fusion patent has been approved out of 300 applications. While in Japan there have been 100 patents issued for low energy nuclear reactions.

In terms of the suppression of Fleischmann and Pons’ work in 1989 it is thought that certain falsification of evidence and misrepresentation occurred in the years to follow. Conspiracy theorists believe that attempts made by the California Institute of Technology, MIT and Yale to reproduce the experiments were not conducted in a proper manner and that the scientists doing the experiments did not have a decent enough understanding of the original claims. This is thought to be the cause of their inability to recreate the reaction. In turn, those who were dedicated to working with hot fusion had all the ammunition they needed to refute cold fusion as a myth. It is also thought that the seven months spent by the US Department of Energy panel in investigating the claims of Fleischmann and Pons was superficial and should have been longer and more in depth.

One person who protested about this energy suppression at the time was Eugene F. Mallove, the science writer, editor and publisher of Infinite Energy, he was also founder of the New Energy Foundation. Mallove was instrumental in exposing the reports made by MIT that cold fusion could not be reproduced as either wrong or intentionally fraudulent. Mallove also wrote the book Fire from Ice, which claims that Fleischmann and Pons’ work was legitimate and that the ridicule that followed was part of an organised campaign made by mainstream physicists who would have lost the funding for the work they were doing should cold fusion be accepted as true. In a 1999 issue of Mallove’s Infinite Energy magazine a piece called “MIT and Cold Fusion: A Special Report” was published which provided evidence that MIT had been untruthful in its investigation of cold fusion and had therefore violated the trust of its employees, donors and the public. Further accusations about MIT were made by Remy Chevalier, editor of the magazine Electrifying Times, who claimed that because MIT was receiving financial aid from both the Ford Foundation and the Rockefeller Brothers it was contributing towards the suppression of new energy sources. These two groups were among the list provided earlier of companies that have been linked to energy suppression as detailed by Gary Vesperman…. (continue)
